James ("The Amusing") Randi exposed:

The challenge, part one

Well, it appears that JREF categorizes virtually all paranormal claims as "extraordinarily implausible" and assumes that many, perhaps most, applicants are mentally ill. JREF reserves the right to ignore an application from anyone whose claim is too "incredible" to be taken seriously, or whose claim contradicts the findings of "Science," as understood by JREF. Further, JREF reserves the right to ignore applications from people who are psychologically impaired - a determination that can be made by JREF alone.

Randi's a fraud, pure and simple. He's also a bully. Whenever someone challenges him, he sends out his fanatics to challenge them in his name, and if that doesn't work, he publicly mocks them hoping that'll take care of it. I've been laughing at the guy for years, and I'll continue to read his stuff when I have the time just for the sheer amusement of his proclamations.

Yeah, but he markets himself as a "skeptic," so the media thinks he's an expert who can do no wrong.

The worst of it is, the mainstream types seem to accept the fact that no one has "met" Randi's challenge (because, of course, he's set it up to be impossible to meet) as conclusive evidence that Science (capital "S") Must Be Right, and anyone coming along trying to get them to take the paranormal seriously must ipso facto be a nutbag.

It's easy to take a superficial look at Randi and assume that he's being honest, and that's just what most people do. The easy way out is to look at him and say, "See? He can't find anyone who can prove the paranormal in any subject." Of course, we all know, most people will take the easy way if given the option...
