My neighbor has acquired a dog and, I think, a cat. I can hear both of them mewling wildly from across the hall. And thanks to an overheard discussion, I've been provided with a keen perspective on his personal life: Apparently his girlfriend (wife?) is really angry because his television set is home to nothing less disgusting than a colony of roaches. Lots of door-slamming and yelling going on. Ah, humans.

I don't envy you your living space (although I have come down with a severe case of blog envy). I've been blessed of late with a passel of (relatively) quiet fellow tenants. Outside neighbors too. It wasn't always this way, though. Noisiness definitely seems to come and go. I actually put a lot of thought into how to live and work without being disturbed by other people. The solution, I'm convinced, is to operate a computer-based home business from a small house (ease of maintenance for one person) in the exact middle of a VERY large plot of land. (The problem is, of course, the govt. can always decide to ram yet another Intersate through your front yard, but barring that....)

It's not as bad as I made it sound. It's actually a decent little pad. The mewling and yapping comes and goes -- and I genuinely enjoy listening in on the inane arguments. Although if I see a roach in *my* living room I might blow a fuse.
