Mile-high cellphones may block ET's call

"'It could be a disaster for us,' says Michael Davis, of the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California. 'We have incredibly sensitive radio telescopes - even a single cellphone on a plane 100 miles away could cause pretty serious damage.' That is partly because cellphone signals from the sky could be in a telescope's direct line of sight, unlike signals from phones on the ground."

Another good reason to ban the goddamned things.

Well, we're always told not to switch them on until the plane comes to a full and complete stop, so anyone calling 30,000 feet in the air is naughty.

Although Ive never owned one in my life and never will, it's good to know that i wont block ET's call.

Barely relevant. If ET wants to talk to us badly enough, no number of cellphones is going to stop them.

Of course *I* agree with you, but we're talking SETI cultists, here.

Whenever I see someone in a CAR on their cell (still not illegal in MA where you'd think it would be since nearly everything else is) I've started making my hand look the way commedians do when they're pretending to have a phone conversation. You know, with the pinkie and index fingers extended. Then I pretend I'm yakking on my pretend cell. So far, no reaction since the "cellers" are so absorbed in their conversations, they're not paying attention to anything else including their driving. Maybe a UFO would do the trick, but I dunno. I can see some of them still yakking away while being abducted!

Sometimes I wonder how we appear to ET's. Maybe they're just here because they get a kick out of watching our antics. lol.
